HISTORY

On the move for generations.

Every journey has its own story.

Sometimes it starts with morning coffee. Sometimes it starts with a conversation at the communal table.

Sometimes from a good night's sleep before an important day.

We have been part of these moments for over 75 years.

We don't just serve food. We create places to which passengers return with sentimental fondness. Places where the journey slows down for a moment, and the journey becomes as important as the destination.

Beginning

The history of WARS dates back to the times when Poland was rebuilding after the war.

In 1948, the Sleeping and Dining Car Operations Department was established within the Orbis Travel Agency. The idea was born: to make even long train journeys comfortable, peaceful, and full of delicious flavors.

Just a year later, the first dining car was launched on the Warsaw-Paris route.

Thus began a story that continues to this day.

Restaurant on the tracks - in the past

Dining cars have always been about more than just a meal on the go.

It was a real restaurant on the tracks.

White tablecloths. Porcelain gently swaying to the rhythm of the train tracks. Elegant service.

The aroma of freshly brewed coffee. Changing landscapes outside the window, and conversations at the tables that often lasted longer than the journey itself.

It is this atmosphere that has made the restaurant car one of the most recognizable symbols of Polish railways.

Smak, który podróżował przez Europę

A taste that traveled across Europe.

Our wagons traveled not only across Poland.

We served connections to Berlin, Prague, Budapest, Bucharest, as well as the legendary route: Stockholm – Warsaw – Budapest.

For thousands of passengers, WARS was their first encounter with Polish hospitality and a place where travel took on a unique character.

Tradition that travels with the times.

In the 1970s, the company WARS (Sleeping and Restaurant Car Company) in Poland experienced a period of intensive development and operated hundreds of cars and buffets on the main railway routes.

The locomotives changed. The interiors, the menu, and the pace of travel changed.

One thing remained unchanged.

The belief that a good journey is more than just getting from point A to point B.

In the 1990s, the company was transformed into a joint-stock company owned by the State Treasury.

New millennium

MILLENNIUM

In 2000 the name was officially changed to WARS Joint-Stock Company (WARS SA). In 2008, the company's logo changed and remains in effect to this day.

Today.

Modern trains, digital orders, speeding at up to 250 km/h.

Technology has changed the way we travel.

However, it did not change what was most important.

You can still sit down with a cup of coffee, have breakfast, lunch or dinner and just enjoy the road for a while.

Just like passengers did several decades ago.

An appetite for flavorful journeys.

We combine over seven decades of experience with a modern approach to travel.

Every day, we ensure the comfort of passengers in our dining, bar, and sleeping cars. We are developing restaurant, hotel, and catering services, as well as digital solutions that make travel even more convenient.

Because although trains are faster than ever today, one thing remains the same.
